RED BETTY is a New York City based rock band that believes a song with a rich melody and a great lyric reigns supreme. RED BETTY delivers a sound that is fresh and dynamic, drawing on folk, pop and rock influences. RED BETTY performs regularly in NYC venues such as Arlene Grocery, Bitter End, CBGB, Brownies, and Luna Lounge.
Yahz, songwriter, singer and founding member of the band, has been on the New York City scene for the last several years. When Yahz brought together the musicians that would become RED BETTY in March '99 she knew that she had found the right vehicle for her songwriting.
Chris Swope, the band's guitarist and contributing songwriter, hails from Kansas City, Missouri and has toured extensively through the Midwest with original bands. Chris's guitar playing is both emotional and melodic, weaving perfectly with Yahz's vocal lines.
Bassist Nicholas D'Amato brings his wide musical experiences and influences to the band. Nicholas has played everything from jazz to show music to country and swing. Nicholas does a lot of commercial work when he is not busy with the band. Even with all this varied experience, Nicholas is a rocker at heart and calls RED BETTY home.
Mat Deveau, the band's drummer, is originally from Toronto, Canada but has traveled the world playing the drums in a variety of musical styles. Before coming to NYC, Mat spent some time in the music scene in Dallas, Texas before RED BETTY brought him to New York.
RED BETTY's second CD, Swim, was released in April 2000. The five songs that make up Swim were co-produced by the band and Ernie Fortunato at Ernie's studio in New Jersey. Swim is available for purchase at all the major online music stores such as cdnow.com and amazon.com.
RED BETTY's debut CD, Sister Rubber Limbs, was produced by John Ashton, formerly of the Psychedelic Furs, and features his guitar playing. The CD was recorded at Applehead Studios in Woodstock, NY and released in 1998. Yahz recorded the album before forming the current line-up.
